Why are the Higher Yogas so important?
When people think about yoga, they picture calm-looking folks twisting their
bodies into pretzel-like shapes. But yoga has so much more to offer.
After an hour-and-fifteen minutes of postures, including a 10-minute
"deep relaxation" practice, you’ll feel very relaxed. Many students
say the feel better after their first class than they have for years. However,
if we sent you home after the postures, what would happen if, let’s say,
someone cut you off on the freeway? Or if you arrived at home or work and
someone was upset with you? Would you stay relaxed? For most people, these
stressful situations would put all that tension back into your body. That’s
why we teach Higher Yogas.
The many Higher Yogas techniques you learn at Yoga Center allow you to
quickly release the chaos in your mind and emotions that puts that tension into
your body in the first place. This not only gives you peace of mind, but also
improves your health and opens the door to an inner power that thousands of
students have discovered at Yoga Center classes.
The Higher Yogas techniques include meditation practices that take 5-15
minutes and life-skill practices that you do during busy day to help you stay
calm and focused in even the most stressful situations. The Higher Yogas portion
of class includes techniques from all the main yogas (Raja, Jnana, Bhakti, Laya,
Mantra, Kundalini).
